Over time, malignant skin changes can occur. Risk factors include sun (UV) exposure and age. It is medically necessary to surgically remove malignant changes and have them analysed in the laboratory. These procedures are covered by health insurance and can usually be performed on an outpatient basis and under local anaesthetic.
-
Suitability
This procedure is suitable for patients suffering from unclear or suspicious skin changes or malignant skin tumours that have already been confirmed (by biopsy/tissue sample). Patients are often referred by their family doctor or dermatologist. Certain medications such as blood thinners may need to be discontinued before the procedure.
-
Consultation
If you suffer from an unclear or suspicious skin change or skin tumour, you can either make an appointment at our clinic yourself or be referred by your family doctor (important with the family doctor model) or dermatologist. As part of an initial consultation, we will examine the change and discuss the next steps with you.
-
Intervention
The procedures can almost always be performed on an outpatient basis and under local anaesthetic in our clinic. The costs are covered by health insurance. The tissue is sent to the laboratory for further analysis.
-
Aftercare
After the procedure, you will be given an appointment for a follow-up check. The laboratory results will then be discussed with you and sutures removed if necessary. The treatment will be completed once the wound has healed. The further procedure or any follow-up treatment will also be discussed with you.
