Ear correction

Deformities in the ears can be disturbing. Ideally shaped ears provide more self-confidence.

Various ear deformities can be disturbing: earlobes can become larger and droopier over the course of a lifetime or if heavy ear jewellery is worn frequently. Time and again, ear jewellery also causes earlobes to be torn out.

A simple procedure under local anaesthetic can be used to correct and ideally shape a torn or split earlobe as well as a large and drooping earlobe. Another common concern is the correction of protruding ears. Depending on the case, the auricles are raised and/or reduced in size. This can be performed on both adults and children. This procedure can significantly improve self-esteem and self-confidence.

Overview

Children from approx. 6 years and adults

Duration of surgery: 1–2 hours

Work possible after 1-2 weeks

Sport possible after 4-6 weeks

  • Suitability

The procedure is suitable for both children (from approx. 6 years of age) and adults who suffer from deformities of the earlobe or pinna. A good general condition is an advantage. Certain medications such as blood thinners must be discontinued before the procedure.

  • Consultation

During your initial consultation at the Clinic for Aesthetic Surgery, we will discuss the various treatment options in detail. Together, we can develop a precise treatment plan to achieve a beautiful result that meets your expectations. If you decide to proceed with the procedure, we will schedule a follow-up consultation to address any questions you may have and finalize the plan for the procedure.

  • Intervention

The correction of torn or oversized earlobes takes approx. 1 hour and is performed under local anaesthetic.

The correction of protruding ears takes approx. 1 to 2 hours and is performed under local anaesthetic or anaesthesia. After local anaesthesia has been administered, an incision is made in the crease behind the ear or in a crease on the front of the ear. The ear cartilage is then remodelled and fixed in the desired position. Finally, the incision is carefully sutured closed again, leaving a barely visible fine scar that remains hidden in the fold behind the ear or in a fold in the ear. At the end of the operation, a generously padded head bandage is applied.

  • Aftercare

After 2 days, the head bandage can be removed and the hair washed. The stitches are removed approx. 2 weeks after the operation. Light sporting activities without risk of injury can be resumed 2 to 3 weeks after the operation. Contact sports should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
