Eyelid lift

Drooping eyelids and bags under the eyes impair the gaze. An outpatient eyelid lift ensures a fresh expression and clear vision.

With increasing age, many people suffer from drooping eyelids (upper eyelids) or bags under the eyes (lower eyelids). This can result in a tired and sad facial expression. Occasionally, the excess skin on the upper eyelids can even impair vision. Bags under the eyes in the lower eyelid area are fat that is increasingly pushed forwards. Bags under the eyes are often associated with dark circles and darkly pigmented lower eyelid skin. These changes can be corrected by an eyelid lift, which is performed on an outpatient basis.

Overview

Recommended from the age of 40

Duration of surgery: 1–2 hours

Work possible after 1-2 weeks

Sport possible after 3-4 weeks

  • Suitability

The procedure is suitable for people with excess skin on the upper eyelids or bags under the eyes. A good general condition is an advantage. Certain medications such as blood thinners must be discontinued before the procedure.

  • Consultation

During an initial consultation at the Clinic for Aesthetic Surgery, we will discuss in detail what you no longer like about your eyelids. We will discuss the various non-invasive and surgical treatment options with you. Together, we can work out a precise treatment plan to achieve a beautiful result that fulfils your wishes. If you decide in favour of surgery, a further consultation will follow to discuss any questions you may have and to plan the procedure.

  • Intervention

Upper eyelid lifts can be performed under local anaesthetic without any problems. Lower eyelid lifts are performed under local anaesthetic with light sedation.

Drooping eyelids are corrected by removing excess skin from the upper eyelid. If there is excess fat, this is also removed to create an ideal shape. At the end of the procedure, the edges of the wound are precisely sutured with a fine thread. The scar is then placed in the edge of the eyelid and is therefore barely or not at all visible.

A small incision is made below the lower eyelashes for eyelid lifting on the lower eyelid. Excess fat is removed or redistributed so that both the bulge and the depression (dark circles) disappear. Excess skin is carefully removed and finally the edges of the wound are precisely sutured with a fine thread. The scar is then positioned below the eyelashes and is therefore barely visible or not visible at all. Occasionally, bags under the eyes can also be removed from the inside via the conjunctiva (transconjunctival). This is particularly indicated if there is no excess skin. The transconjunctival technique leaves no visible scars.

  • Aftercare

After the eyelid lift, you will spend the first 2 to 3 hours in our clinic. During this time, cool compresses will be applied and your upper body will be elevated to minimise swelling. A few hours after the procedure, you will be able to leave the clinic accompanied by an escort. After both upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty, there is usually no to minimal pain. The stitches are removed 5 to 7 days after blepharoplasty. The scars after an eyelid correction are practically invisible.
