A breast reduction involves removing excess skin, glandular and fatty tissue and remodelling the breast. Affected patients often suffer greatly from the existing breast size and/or shape. Common complaints include neck, shoulder and back pain or skin problems in the underbust crease. Breast reduction usually results in a significant improvement in quality of life. Depending on the extent of the findings, the costs may be covered by health insurance.
-
Suitability
The procedure is suitable for patients who suffer from their breast size.
Good general health is an advantage. Certain medications such as blood thinners must be discontinued before the procedure.
-
Consultation
During an initial consultation at the Clinic for Aesthetic Surgery, we discuss the various surgical methods in detail. We will also evaluate whether a cost approval can be obtained. If you decide in favour of surgery, a further consultation will follow to discuss any questions you may have and to plan the procedure in detail.
-
Intervention
Breast reduction surgery is performed under anaesthetic and usually requires an overnight stay in our clinic. Drains are inserted to remove blood and secretions, which are usually removed on the first day after the operation.
-
Aftercare
A supportive bra is recommended for approx. 6 weeks after a breast reduction.
Office work can normally be resumed after 1 to 2 weeks, for physically strenuous work you should wait 3 to 4 weeks. Sport can be resumed after 6 weeks.
The final results of the operation will be visible after 6 to 12 months.
